Woodmere History: In 1815, sixteen
pioneers settled in the area called Orange which
included the present cities of Pepper Pike, Orange
Moreland Hills, Hunting Valley, Woodmere. In 1924,
residents of northern Orange Township voted to
separate, and the village of Pepper Pike was
incorporated. That was the first separation action
of what was eventually to lead to the creation of
five different communities, including Woodmere.
The developments which have taken place in Woodmere
Village over the past 57 years have been remarkable.
Woodmere's development has been spontaneous and was
escalated by the completion of Interstate 271 in the
late 1960's. Primarily, I-271 made Woodmere Village
and the Chagrin Valley more accessible. It
transformed the Eastern Chagrin Boulevard corridor
from a rural main thoroughfare with a limited number
of commercial establishments and a small number or
residential homes to a thriving seat of commercial
activity.
Woodmere Village is less than one square mile and is
developed on all sides to the extent of its
boundaries; being bounded on the North and East by
the City of Pepper Pike, on the South by Orange
Village and on the West by the City of Beachwood.
Although Woodmere Village appears to be a sleepy
hamlet with a residential population of
approximately 900 and geographical boundaries of
less than a square mile, Woodmere is truly a
paradox. On a weekly basis approximately 200,000
people conduct business and work in Woodmere
Village. For its size and population Woodmere is one
of the busiest commercial centers in Northeast Ohio.
One of Ohio's smaller communities, visitors will

or dine. Whether for business or pleasure, come and
