Chagrin Arts will continue its seventh season of Chautauqua-in-Chagrin on Tuesday, July 16 with Markets & Morals: Reimagining the Social Contract. Dr. Chris Laszlo and Rabbi Richard Block will discuss the moral limits to markets and how they are connected to other significant elements of life.
Markets & Morals: Reimagining the Social Contract was the highest ranked theme in a survey distributed to audiences at the end of Chautauqua-in-Chagrin last summer asking which topics should be presented in the future. Informed by Michael Sandel’s new book “What Money Can’t Buy,” Markets & Morals questions if we have drifted from having a market economy to being a market society and how this influences all spheres of our lives — medicine, education, government, law, art, culture, sports, even family life and personal relations. Dr. Chris Laszlo will speak on “The Flourishing Enterprise: Connecting Spirituality and Sustainability” and Rabbi Richard Block will discuss “Money and the Meaning of Life.”
