Stoppard's comedy tells the story of two feuding theatre critics, Moon (the pompous and vindictive one) and Birdboot (the stuffy philanderer), who become involved in the action of the ludicrious whodunit they're watching, causing a series of events that parallel the play.
 

In the tradition of Agatha Christie melodramas, a group is trapped in an isolated English manor with a body hidden under a sofa, when a suspicious young man and an inspector from Scotland Yard arrive. Moon and Birdboot somehow find themselves implicated in the lethal activities of the escaped madman!
